The Book
Both sides of the family — and your own voice in it, while it's still here to record.

The one to do while the people who remember are still here to be asked. Two proper recorded conversations with you, both parental lines traced back through the records, and the whole thing written into a single volume — the research and the remembering together, including the parts that only ever lived in someone's head.
Most families lose that second half permanently inside a generation. No archive anywhere holds a copy of it. That is the part of this work that cannot be done later, and it is the reason this is the one I'd argue hardest for.
What arrives
- A forty-plus page volume, typeset and print-ready, covering both parental lines.
- The full audio of your recorded conversations, kept and handed over with the book.
- Everything graded and sourced, the same as every other thing made here.
- The remembered material set alongside the documented material, each clearly marked as what it is.
What I need from you. Your time for two conversations, and the family you want covered. I'll do the rest.
Twenty-two to twenty-six hours of work. The conversations are arranged around you.
Reserve The Book — £100 booking fee See a specimen first
£100 reserves it and books the first conversation. The balance is settled on delivery, before the finished book and the audio are released.
Payment is by card through Stripe. £795 is the whole price — the booking fee is simply the first part of it, nothing is added on top. Questions first? Write to me — I'd rather you asked.
What it actually looks like
‘My mother kept the rent book in the tea caddy, and God help anyone who moved it.’ A line like that goes on the page exactly as it was said, marked FAMILY SAYS — and the rent record that survives sits on the facing page, marked PROVED.
How The Book carries a voice — the remembered material set beside the documented, each marked as what it is. Specimen wording, invented for illustration.
How the grading works
Every claim carries one of four marks — PROVED, LIKELY, FAMILY SAYS, OPEN — so you are never told a guess is a fact. It is also what makes a fixed price honest: I don't have to dig until certain about everything, because I can hand you the work and tell you exactly how certain I am about each part of it.
